World Theatre Day has been celebrated by theatre professionals, organizations, universities & theatre lovers all over the world on the 27th of March. This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”, and acts as a wake-up-call for others who have not yet recognized its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realised its potential for economic growth.

"I can feel my heartbeat beat a little louder the very moment I see Mabel come in the room" was the lyric about the character Mabel that Amy Wallis played in our Mack and Mabel in concert. The musical theatre community has lost a truly bright light that also made here own impression on and off stage when she entered the room. She will be fondly remembered and missed. Our condolences to Amy's family and friends. More information click here.

Deadline for the Cheryl Hutcherson Award has been extended this year till Wednesday December 31st. For information on this special award, click here. The Cheryl Hutcherson Award is awarded annually to students who have demonstrated high academic standing in their theatre/musical theatre studies, have proven ability in their craft, been involved in the musical theatre community and plan to return to full-time post-secondary training in acting or musical theatre in the fall of 2015.

His musicals are rarely presented in North America so this makes it that much more exciting. June 13/14/15 at CBC Studio 700. More info click here.

This includes any "artistic leader" who directed, music directed, choreographed, designed (set/costume/lights) or produced a musical in the Lower Mainland in 2013. Nominees will be announced January 13th, then the general public may vote for their favourites from January 13th till 22nd. The winners will be announced at the 10th Annual OVATION Awards on Sunday January 26 at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Tickets available by clicking here.

The APPLAUSE! Winter/Spring 2014 Season was announced today which includes concert presentations of three rare musicals Red Hot and Blue (1936) by Cole Porter, Sail Away (1961) by Noel Coward and Gay's The Word (1950) by Ivor Novello. A Musicals 101 Porter/Coward/Novello will dig deeper into the works and lives of these composers, and a special Musicals 101 revue looking at celtic themed musicals.

The musical theatre community is still grieving from the recent loss of our dear friend and supporter Cheryl Hutcherson who died with stage IV cancer. A supporter to the end having recently attended one of our summer cabaret's, she leaves a legacy to the musical theatre community in the form of a scholarship/award in her name that people may contribute to.
