The January 2014 Ovation Awards, Celebrating the Musicals of 2013
Members of the Musical Theatre Community of the Lower Mainland of Vancouver celebrated the musicals of 2013 by giving out 19 awards to various companies and members of the community on Sunday January 26, 2014 at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Bill Millerd, Artistic Director of the Arts Club Theatre Company who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary season, was honoured with a Significant Achievement award. Two young people won the Cheryl Hutcherson Newcomer Award, a financial award Henry Beasley and Devon Busswood.
Performances from a number of musicals from 2013 were performed, closing with a special number performed by Sibil Thrasher who was in long running Ain’t Misbehavin – one of the Arts Club Theatre’s most successful shows.
Scott Ashton Swan, founder of APPLAUSE! Musicals Society who produce the OVATION! Awards shared reflected on some of the interesting milestones of musicals over the last 10 years, and shared that 2013 included 45 musicals in the Lower Mainland as well as 8 Christmas panto’s.
