General Audition Notes from APPLAUSE!:
APPLAUSE! accepts year round general auditions by tape and encourage all artists to submit this with a headshot & resume (or detailed bio). We especially encourage and welcome submissions from artists of all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, national origin, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
We post our auditions here as well as on the Vancouver Public Library audition list.
Auditions are by invitation only. Email your headshot and resume to us at applausemusicals at yahoo.ca (not .com)
Due to our very short rehearsal period, we are especially looking for people who are able to learn music in a very short time.
Due to the very short rehearsal process (one week/approximately 40 hours), missing rehearsals is non-negotiable. If you are unable to commit to the entire rehearsal/performance schedule, please do not audition.
APPLAUSE! welcomes anyone to audition but aims to find people who read music, or learn music quickly (we rehearse an entire show in one week). Preference will also be given to those people who have had previous musical/theatre training and experience. A specific focus is put on showcasing new talent who have had formal training in theatre or music looking to further their pursuits in the performing arts.
In order to constantly be working with new people, it is a general guideline to not cast those who have performed in a leading role in the last two concerts in another leading role. However, based on who comes out, we will cast the best person for the roles. Please do not let this be a deterrent to coming to audition.
As an amateur society, we do not pay our performers. However, over the years some members of Canadian Actors Equity or ACTRA/UBCP have been contracted under special arrangement and permission.
For Your Audition:
At your audition, please have your music three-hole punched and in a binder for the accompanist provided. If you're using a bound music book, please have your music clearly marked.
