The January 2022 Ovation Awards, Celebrating the Musicals of 2021
The 18th Annual OVATION! Awards
Sunday January 30, 2022 - 7PM - ONLINE
The 18th Annual OVATION! Awards, was held online Sunday January 30th, 2022. The online show was hosted by Cathy Wilmot and Scott Ashton Swan and featured production video and photos from 14 musicals presented in the Lower Mainland in 2021.
There were also special video presentations featuring the five panto's that ran in 2021, a video reflection of Awkward Stage Productions and the impact of their company and productions over the last 10 years. Memorial videos remembering Stephen Sondheim and his evening in Vancouver (An Evening with Stephen Sondheim), and local musical theatre actress Roma Hearn.
The $1,000 Cheryl Hutcherson Award was presented to Studio 58 student Brodie Kyle Klassen.

- Shizuka Kai, Set Design - Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, Arts Club Theatre Company
- The entire company of Pageant: A Musical Comedy Beauty Contest – Something Extra Productions in association with the Kay Meek Centre and Shoreline Studios. Including the creative team Director/Producer: Christopher Shyer Johnson, Choreographer/Producer: Ken Overbey, Music Director: Jeremy Hoffman, Director of Photography: Jordan Bzdel, Editing: Brash Productions & Madwork Media, Production & Lighting Design: Vanka Salim – for their filmed/streamed production of Pageant.
- Janet Gigliotti, Christopher King and Robert McQueen, the writers of 3AM in the Persian Room, for creating a new Canadian musical work.
