Auditions for Irene, music directed by Mark Reid & directed by Mandana Namazi will take place on SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2009 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (Burnaby).  

 Why should you audition for this show?

 “It is important for dedicated musical theatre enthusiasts to get to know rarer musicals. This helps in establishing a better frame of reference for how to interpret music of a particular composer, lyricist, or time period. Irene is a good ensemble piece with moments for ALL cast members to show off their gifts as part of a team. Whether you get a solo moment or are part of a challenging 'close harmony' ensemble number, you will find that your abilities are challenged and engaged.” – Mark Reid, Music Director

 “The music is fun with many opportunities to sing beautiful harmonies. The characters, both leads and supporting, are not the run of the mill musical theatre stereotypes. The experience will be different from what many are used to having to work very hard but also learn a lot from the process. Please Prepare: ONE SONG from a musical pre-1980. It is also always a good idea to bring a contrasting song "just in case".

* Due to the very short rehearsal process, missing any rehearsals is non-negotiable. If you are unable to commit to the entire rehearsal/performance schedule please do not audition. The schedule for Irene:

* Callbacks take place Tuesday Janaury 13th at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. All those being called back must first audition.

* Bring a photo (headshot or snapshot) and a resume or detailed bio outlining past music experience and/or training. 

* Please have your music three-hole punched and in a binder for the accompanist provided. If using bound music books please have music clearly marked.

* In order to constantly be working with new people it is a general guideline to not cast those who have performed in a leading role in the last three concerts in another leading role. HOWEVER, based on who comes out, we will cast the best person for the roles. Please do not let this be a deterent to coming to audition.

* As an amateur society we do not pay our performers unless they are members of Canadian Actors Equity or ACTRA/UBCP (under special arrangement)

* If cast you are required to make a $20 donation to the Society which is eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
