The OVATION Awards were created to annually recognize the achievements & contributions in the Lower Mainland's musical theatre community. The awards are produced by APPLAUSE! Musicals Society, a non-profit charitable organization. The awards ceremony is the society's signature fundraising event raising money for financial awards and various programming throughout the year.

THE DETAILS OF THE VOTING PROCESS

Each nomination form must include votes in at least 5 categories to be valid. 

Each online voting form must include the full name, city, phone number and email of the person voting. All information collected is strictly confidential and is used for the sole use of the 2006 Ovation Awards.

An individual may
NOT vote for themselves but they may vote for a production they participated with. You may only vote once.

When voting for an individual, please include the persons
full name and the name of the production for which they were involved i.e. "Jonathan Smith, Camelot" .

Votes may be made for both musicals and operetta produced by professional, amateur and/or post secondary musical or opera training programs.

Votes are collected online for only 15 days starting Tuesday
January 1st, 2008 until midnight, Tuesday January 15th, 2008.

Awards are given based on a "popularity" vote. The top five in each category represent the "nominee's" which will be announced on
Friday January 18th. The person, company or show with the most votes in each category is presented an award at an awards show on Sunday January 27th, 2008

Tallying of the votes is done by volunteers and is overseen by the board of directors of APPLAUSE! Musicals Society. These volunteers and board members are not eligible for awards.  The only two awards that are not a "popularity vote" are the 07 & major contribution awards which are chosen by the Board of Directors of APPLAUSE! based on the nominees.

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS:

Outstanding Production - Professional, Amateur, Operetta, Pantomime: Remounted productions are not eligible for this award, but are eligible for individual awards, granted that the individual has not already won in that category for that show.
Outstanding Revue or Musical In Concert: To be eligible for this award the revue or concert must contain a scripted book, and include music from the musical theatre repertoire.
Outstanding New Work: Awarded to the composer/lyricist of a new work.
Outstanding Music Director, Director, and Choreographer: Awarded to an individual in each category.
Outstanding Design: Awarded to an individual or overall design team for set, costume, light and/or sound design.
Outstanding Lead Performance (Male & Female): Awarded to an individual in a leading role.
Outstanding Supporting Performance (Male & Female): Awarded to an individual in a supporting role.
Outstanding Gypsy (Male & Female): Awarded to a member of a chorus who demonstrated exceptional performance, enthusiasm, and team spirit.
Newcomer (Male & Female): This is a FINANCIAL award, awarded to an individual who 1) performed in a musical in 2007 and 2) is a recent graduate of a secondary or post secondary institution in 2007. They should demonstrate talent, ambition, focus, desire and an ability to continue to contribute to the musical theatre community of the lower mainland. A newcomer may have played a lead, been in the chorus, or worked backstage. This financial award is for further training and development of their skills. Please note this award will be paid directly to an established teacher/coach or training facility. Amount of award is based on money rose at the awards ceremony.
Behind the scenes: Awarded to an individual who demonstrated exceptional work ethic, enthusiasm, and significantly contributed to the show as stage manager, assistant stage manager or crewmember.
2007 Contribution: Awarded to an individual, cast, administrator, producer or company that has given a groundbreaking, special and/or unique contribution to the 2007 year of musicals.
Major Contribution: Awarded to a company or member of the community who has contributed a minimum of 10 years to the development, promotion and continuation of musical theatre in the lower mainland. Past recipients include Bill Millerd (Arts Club Theatre Company), Lloyd Nicholson (Director/Music Director), Pat Waldron (Producer, Actor), Ed Harrington (RCMT) and Johnny Duncan (Metro Theatre).
