Now accepting submissions
Deadline end of day Monday January 25, 2021

The 17th Annual OVATION! Awards will take place online on Sunday January 31st, 2021. This annual event celebrates all those involved with musical theatre in the Lower Mainland. FIVE chosen video submissions will be integrated into our live streamed event and/or featured on social media leading up to the event.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA & PROCESS

All contest submissions should:
  • Be original for this event
  • Where possible content should support the theme of musical theatre in the Lower Mainland
  • Not infringe on any third-party rights (music, intellectual property, etc.).
  • Not include any CAEA/ACTRA/UBCP members
  • Be submitted by email to applausemusicals@yahoo.ca by end of day MONDAY January 25, 2021. Email to include the entrant’s name, anyone involved, mailing address and phone number.
  • Uploading: Via drobox is preferred, however, it can also be posted to a personal or company YouTube or Vimeo Channel as a downloadable video. Please provide the video link with your submission. Ensure what you have provided us is a high-resolution output of your video. Small videos may be attached as a file to the email where possible as long as it does not cause the video to be overly compressed.
  • If we have a problem with the resolution or quality of the video we may contact you for a crisper version.
  • Preferred file formats are .mov and .mp4
  • If submitting another way email us at applausemusicals@yahoo.ca to discuss

We thank everyone for their submissions, however not all submissions may be chosen to be included.

LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION?
  • Video that includes more than one person (yet socially distanced) encouraged
  • Song including the best quotes of 2020 (maybe sung “moistly”)
  • Parody is always fun!
  • Create a commercial for a show that did not happen.
  • Share a RANT…but also offer a suggestion or solution!
  • Music Video collage of your best looks of 2020
  • Roast your favorite composer!
  • A reading of something you have written
  • Share an inspirational story from 2020?
  • Have you created or built something in 2020 that you want to share?
  • Something to honour a specific musical theatre company in the Lower Mainland.

TIPS FOR MAKING A GREAT VIDEO:

  • You don’t need to hire a professional. A homemade quality video can work great. But plan ahead and shoot several takes to get it right.
  • Higher resolution equals higher quality. Record in 16:9 widescreen format if possible. If you can record your video in high definition (1280×720 pixels), do it. Also, aim for good audio sound quality. Use a microphone wherever possible. Capture the best you can with the equipment you have.
  • Use sufficient lighting. People need to see you and what you are doing/talking about. The more light, the better. Also, having more than one light source will help alleviate any kind of shadows.
  • Practice by recording sample videos and then share them with friends and family for feedback.

DISCLAIMER:
